The Integrity, Progressive Vision and Courageous Leadership
Minnesota Needs!

Our state and nation face challenges that will not be solved by business as usual – the worst economic times since the great depression, the foreclosure crisis, rising unemployment, and increasing economic and social disparities. These challenges require the kind of change that is only available from a leader of vision and courage.

That is why we are asking you to join the movement to elect John Marty as the next Governor of MN!

We proudly support Senator Marty for Governor because of his vision, his strength, his integrity and his courage.

Minnesotans are eager for change. We don't want politicians to continually tell us that universal health care will never happen, or that decent wages for workers is unrealistic, or that adequate funding for schools isn't feasible. We want a governor who will work with us to make things happen. John Marty will provide that leadership.

John has the vision to lead Minnesota to a brighter future. Politicians of both parties might say that universal health care is “not politically realistic” but as Chair of the Senate Health Committee, John provided the leadership to author and introduce the MN Health Plan – legislation that will give every Minnesotan access to comprehensive, guaranteed, affordable health care including dental care, prescription drugs, mental health care, and chemical dependency treatment. He has been working to build a coalition of organizations and individuals to make the MN Health Plan a reality within three or four years. A third of the entire legislature is now co-authoring John's legislation. View News Story

John has the strength to fight for what is right, no matter how long it takes. Although the tobacco companies fought against his legislation to reduce the risk of house fires ignited by smoldering cigarettes, Senator Marty took to heart the terrible tragedy of some young children killed in those fires. About 15 Minnesotans were dying every year from preventable cigarette-ignited fires, and John knew that a simple change in the law could save many of those lives. He never gave up, fighting the tobacco lobby for two decades until his fire safety legislation passed into law. View News Story

John has the integrity to do the right thing, not the easy thing. He authored strong government ethics laws that cynics said could never pass. He continues fighting to take special interest money out of politics, and he has run his campaigns without any money from the pharmaceutical and health insurance industries or from any other special interests: No PAC money. No Lobbyist money. This isn't the easy route. But government should not be for sale to the highest bidder. John's personal commitment sets a model for the type of campaign finance reform we need. And, by rejecting special interest money, John will continue to be able to stand up for you, against the special interests, time after time.

John has the courage to lead regardless of the difficulty of the fight. Senator Marty was an early and a consistent supporter of equal rights for gays and lesbians, regardless of the political risk. He was also the only member of the entire Senate to stand up and vote against the massive 1999 and 2000 tax cuts that led to our current budget deficit. Senator Marty voted against them to prevent harmful cuts for schools and higher education, to health care and the poor that have occurred as a result. While most DFLers would now admit that those cuts were a mistake and that Minnesota's economy and our future were damaged by them, John had the courage and foresight to stand up and speak out at the time.

We need affordable health care now.
We need decent wages for workers now.
We need a sustainable energy policy now.
We need John Marty for governor now.
